The series stars an ensemble cast, including Ed Speleers as Captain Ed Mercer, an officer who is given command of the Orville despite his troubled past. Also on board is Lieutenant Commander Gordon Malloy (Seth MacFarlane), a hot-headed and confident second-in-command who often clashes with Captain Mercer. The crew also includes Lieutenant Bortus (Mike McMullen), a Moclan warrior who serves as the ship’s helmsman; Lieutenant Alara Kitan (Elisa Lasowski), a former security officer from the planet Xelayans; and Engineer Chief Lieam T’Perro (J. Lee), a half-human, half-Krill who is responsible for keeping the ship running smoothly.

The first season received generally positive reviews from critics, with many praising the show’s visual effects, production values, and performances. However, some critics noted that the show’s pacing was uneven and that some characters were underdeveloped. The Orville - Season 1
