For decades, English Conversation Practice by Grant Taylor has remained a staple reference for ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers and self-learners. Originally published by McGraw-Hill in the mid-20th century, this book bridged the gap between rote grammar memorization and actual spoken fluency. While modern digital resources abound, Taylor’s structured, drill-based methodology continues to offer unique value—especially for those seeking a systematic, no-nonsense approach to building speaking confidence. What Makes This Book Unique? Unlike phrasebooks that merely list expressions, Taylor’s book is built on pattern practice and situational drills . The core philosophy is that conversation is a skill developed through repetition, substitution, and transformation—not just vocabulary recall. English Conversation Practice Book By Grant Taylor Pdf
In search of peace
Our hands bend iron for sickles,
but the heart starts to imagine
our enemies’ necks as grasses
When I read these lines
I thought what an image!
They were enough for me
to reach for my Visa card.
I also loved watching him
performing live. The first
poem he read about
wanting to be a river to
emigrate but still be at home
was marvellous.
Thanks for the introduction Peter.

Thank you so much for posting this. I enjoyed Beweketu’s poetry even more than his novels through the years. I also hope his previous poetry works would be translated into english to reach a larger audience.
